Tennis: Azarenka beats Williams in Cincinnati final thriller (video)
Belarus' Victoria Azarenka won an epic battle with top seed Serena Williams to WTA Cincinnati Open after 2 hours 29 minutes.
24-year-old world No 2 Victroria Azarenka of Belarus won 31-year-old Serena Williams 2:6, 6:2, 7:6 (8:6). This is Azarenka's third victory over the American and probably the hardest won. Towards the end of the third set, Vika appeared to have more strength left to pull out the epic win.
On her way to the final, Azarenka defeated American Vania King 6:1, 7:6, Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova 6:3, 6:4, Denmarks's Caroline Wozniacki 6:3, 7:6 and Serbian Alena Jankovic 4:6, 6:2, 6:3.
The WTA Cincinnatti Open prize fund is $2,300,000. Victoria Azarenka has won the title for the first time in her career. She has qualified for $426,000 cash award to come along with the slam.
