Ukrainian film director Sentsov gets 20 years in Russian prison (Video)
Along with activist Alexander Kolchenko he was found guilty of planning terrorist attacks.
The military court in Russia's Rostov-on-Don has sentenced the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov to 20 years in maximum security colony, UNIAN reports.
Sentsov activist Alexander Kolchenko were detained by the Russian security services in Crimea in May 2014. FSB has announced that they are members of the banned in Russia Ukrainian organization "Right sector." According to the investigation, the activists had planned sabotage and terrorist acts in several Crimean cities, and in the future - the destruction of a number of facilities, railway bridges, power lines.
Both men pleaded not guilty.
During the trial, Sentsov and one of the main prosecution witnesses, previously convicted Crimean citizen Gennady Afanasiev, said that they had been severely tortured. In court, Afanasyev retracted his testimony against Oleg Sentsov.
The prosecution demanded to sentence the Ukrainian filmmaker to 23 years in strict regime colony.
