Ukrainian vets: Belarus hasn't given official reply on swine situation
Prohibition for import of Belarusian pork is a measure to prevent dissemination of the possible disease.
Euroradio got this information in the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine.
On May 7, Ukraine banned import of pork from Belarus. The reason for that was absence of official information with regard to the situation in the pig complex "Uskhodni" near Baranavichy.
Deputy Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine Dmytro Moroz has said this.
Moroz: "They say that it allegedly was a reproductive respiratory syndrome. However, we sent an enquiry to the veterinary service of Belarus asking to explain the information about the steps taken. The scope of the measures impresses and alerts us. Absence of information forces us to take measures."
The Ukrainians say that they will cancel the ban for import as soon as they get a reply from the Belarusian side. They expect the Belarusian colleagues to either officially confirm or refute the information about the African swine fever virus outbreak.
