U.S. Congress votes for budget compromise
Civil servants will be able to go back to work on Thursday morning. They had to stop working on October 1.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted for the short-term budget compromise suggested by the Senate. Thus, The United States will be able to avoid a default in the near future. Budget debates have been postponed till January.
The bill will preserve the budget status quo and government financing until January 15, 2014 and the debt ceiling will be raised until February 7. The compromise was approved by the Senate earlier and President Barack Obama was ready to sign the draft, RIA Novosti reports.
Civil servants who had to stop working on October 1 due to the budget crisis will be able to get down to work on Thursday morning, October 17. The morning in the USA will begin 8 hours later than in Belarus.
The budget crisis in the USA started on October 1 and it could result in a default if Republicans and Democrats had not reached an agreement on October 17. Republicans refused to raise the debt ceiling until Democrats who controlled the Senate and the White House would not agree “to freeze” the healthcare reform. But the so-called ObamaCare is one of the President’s main initiatives and Democrats made a dead set against it.
