Usau: They might create "pseudo-opposition" structures before round table
Political scientist Pavel Usau doesn't exclude that real opposition activists and political prisoners may not get to possible negotiations with the authorities.
Usau: Lukashenka did not address to the opposition officially, he addressed to certain "constructive forces", which wish Belarus to develop in a good stable direction. This doesn't mean that the opposition will participate in the round table directly. Indeed, there might be a series of organizations, which can go for talks with Lukashenka despite existence of political prisoners. For example, a part of the Belarusian social-democratic party headed by Lyaukovich.
Euroradio: So, we should not
hope that Sannikau, Us, Statkevich will take part in this round table?
Usau: Such
possibility is completely excluded. Lukashenka or his representatives will not
sit at the round table with those people who openly struggled against them, and
against whom they used very strong repressions. It will demonstrate
unconditional weakness of the regime, unconditional weakness of Lukashenka, his
disability to politically control the situation. Thus, most likely,
pseudo-opposition structures will be created, artificial structures, for which
this round table will be conducted. I don't think that real political leaders
who are in prisons at the moment will be admitted to participate in the round
table as this would mean legitimization of the opposition.
Euroradio: Can the opposition
elaborate a common strategy today?
Usau: It
should be elaborated. If the opposition fails to elaborate a common strategy
now, we'll have no opposition to talk about.
