Verka Serdyuchka to become Hero of Ukraine

The Ukraine’s President Victor Yuschenko said in a statement that he was going to make Andrey Danilko, who represented Ukraine at the Eurovision’2007 song contest, a Hero of Ukraine. Meanwhile, some political forces in the country plan to accept Serdyuchka in their ranks.

Valentin Serdyuk, the leader of the People’s Ecological Party, said that he “decided to offer moral support to a genius artiste, putting him in the first five of his party’s nomination list!” Danilko “has made more for Ukraine than 450 corrupt members of parliament that are secretly selling the country.”

In return, Verka Serdyuchka said she was not interested in politics. “I am a people’s singer and do not wish to be a lawmaker,” she said.

On May 12 in Helsinki, Serbia’s Maria Sherifovic won the Eurovision’s final with her song Molitva. Ukrainian singer Verka Serdyuchka became the runner-up. Albania was the only country that gave zero points to the singer. Even Russia, which was kind of mocked in Serdyuhcka’s song, gave 8 points to Danilko.
