Viasna human rights center makes fresh attempt to register
The Viasna human rights center has made a fresh attempt to get registered in Belarus. This time, the organization, named Nasha Viasna (Our Spring), held its founding congress in Minsk. Ales Bialiatski, a renowned human rights activist and a vice president of the International Federation for Human Rights, was elected the chairman of the newly founded human rights group. Charter 97 reports that Our Spring is founded by human rights activists, journalists and public figures from across the country. The founders previously were part of the organization named Viasna that was closed down by the Supreme Court in 2003. Viasna would make numerous attempts to get legalized, but the Justice Ministry would always find grounds to reject registration applications.
