Yarmoshyna: Whole system needs to be changed to create pro-government party
CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna mulls the creation of a pro-government party in Belarus.
"We may have to create a pro-government party but the whole political and election system will need to be changed dramatically for it,” Lidziya Yarmoshyna told state TV channel Belarus One on February 9.
The pro-government party and all the political forces opposing to it will be able to work efficiently in this case, BelaPAN quotes the official. No parties can develop in the current system, Yarmoshyna thinks: “The existing majority system does no stimulate the development of political parties. A party should have an administrative, material and financial resource in order to function but it will not have it if it does not get any guarantees of its representation in the state organs starting from the Parliament.” Only the proportion system can guarantee it, the CEC chairperson said. The current majority system does not give such preferences to parties.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka would not mind if there were some political force that could help working with the personnel, he said making appointments on January 23.
