Yauhen Skrabets’ trial postponed until May 21
Activist remains in detention awaiting the trial on 'petty hooliganism' charges.
The young man is accused of petty hooliganism. The decision to postpone the hearing has been made by Brest Lenin District Court today. It was done to satisfy the journalist’s appeal for defence.
Skrabets was delivered to Lenin District Department of the Interior from court, human rights defender Raman Kislayk told Euroradio. It is impossible to contact him now. The independent journalist may stay in the detention centre until the next hearing, Raman Kislyak thinks.
The independent journalist was detained by people in plain clothes on May 17, Euroradio reported earlier. They claimed that he resembled some criminal and took Skrabets to Soviet District Department of the Interior for questioning. He managed to tell human rights activists that a report for ‘swearing in a public place’ was being drawn up against him. The young man has already spent two nights in the detention centre.
