Yermakova: No need to hurry with single currency with Russia, look at EU
State-run newspaper Zvyazda publishes the minutes of hotline news conference by National Bank chairwoman Nadzeya Yermakova.
She answered 20 questions, including the one about the prospects of the introduction of a single currency in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
"There is no need to hurry with the single currency,” Zvyazda quotes Nadzeya Yermakova as saying. “It is not as simple as it may seem. Look at the European Union where the attitude to the euro is mixed in some countries.”
It is impossible to introduce a single currency in the CIS, Customs Union and the Union State, "based on the principles that were used in the Soviet Union", National Bank head reckons. We need "some other mechanism to unite the Russian and Belarusian currencies”, Nadzeya Yermakova believes.
It will not be possible within the next 10 years, Nadzeya Yermakova concluded.
