Youth save ancient building in Hrodna
The youth activists from the Save Hrodna campaign on May 23 managed to save a 19th-century building in the Old Town of Hrodna in western Belarus.
10 youth activists blocked the way for a bulldozer, which was ready to demolish part of the wall of an ancient building. The workers had nothing to do but to wait out for the end of the working day and leave the "restoration" site.
The campaign activists said they did not expect that the authorities would decide to destroy the old mill building, because it was not on the list of the buildings to be demolished. The activists were not standing by that building.
The old mill survived due to a anonymous phone caller who alerted the activists about the planned demolition, reports Zmicier Zvikievich, ERB correspondent in Hrodna.
