12:56 Heads of universities warned about expelling students
Members of the movement “For freedom” are going to send letters to heads of Belarusian universities on March 21. They are going to inform them about personal responsibility for every student expelled for participation in street actions. The press service of the leader of the democratic movement Alyaksandr Mіlіnkevіch has informed about it. According to a civil surveillance group “For freedom” more than 300 students were expelled for participation in street actions last year.
Most of them were expelled from Minsk universities – Belarusian State University, Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University, Belarusian National Technological University, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio-Electronics, Belarusian State Economic University and others.
According to the head of the committee helping victims of political repressions and their families Ina Kulei, “human rights defenders and the committee are closely watching everything that is hapenning in the academic surroundings”.
She noted that “students were forced to leave the country to study abroad” last year. “They did not want to do it but they had to. We do not want it to repeat,” – said Kulei.
Heads of Minsk universities will receive the letters on March 21. Regional higher education institutions will receive them a day later.
According to A. Milinkevich’s press service, “several activists of an unregistered organization “Malady Front” were called to the dean’s office and interrogated last week. However, their membership in an unregistered organization has not influenced their studies yet”.
