19:02 EU disappointed with arrests in Minsk
The European Commission and members of the European Parliament have poured criticism at the government in Minsk over the arrests of Belarusian opposition activists on Freedom Day on March 25. “I felt very disappointed to hear about the arrests in the central Minsk on March 25. I am urging the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all those detained for having peacefully expressed their opinions”, said Benita Ferera Waldner, EU's Commissioner for External Relations in a statement for the press.
“Unfortunately, expections of repressions against the rally participants on Freedom Day have come true," noted Jacek Wolski, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament. He assured that the European Parliament would discuss the issue this week.
