Alexander Stubb: No economic sanctions
A picket in support of Belarusian political prisoners is being conducted near the building of the Council of the European Union where the EU Foreign Ministers will gather today. According to a Euroradio reporter, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora are holding huge transparencies “Free political prisoners!” and “Stop the terror in Belarus” and photos of the repressed Belarusian politicians.
Some of the Ministers have already arrived and given a few comments on the possible outcome of the coming meeting to journalists. In particular, the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb thinks that severe economic sanctions are unlikely to be imposed: too many people oppose to the step. At the same time he is sure that “the black list” of officials will be expanded and approved.
