Alyaksandr Fyaduta: Kanapleu is gone, Sheiman is the next
The head of the House of Representatives of Belarus Uladzimir Kanapleu has sent in his resignation. Parliamentary sources informed that he explained his decision had been caused by health problems, reports “Interfax”.
Uladzіmіr Kanapleu, a former Shklou policeman, came to power together with Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
He was the main President’s aide from 1994 to 1996. He was elected member of the Supreme Council. Starting from 1996 Kanapleu was deputy head of the House of Representatives of the first and the second convocation.
He became head of the lower chamber of the Belarusian Parliament on November 16, 2004. ERB phoned the former press-secretary of Alyaksandr Lukashenka – Alyaksandr Fyaduta – who was an active participant of the presidential election campaign in 1994 together with Kanapleu.
Alyaksandr Fyaduta: “I think one more resignation is coming soon – the resignation of Victar Sheiman who is likely to become an ambassador to some country. Those who helped Lukashenka and to whom he owes his presidency are resigning. They owe him more than he does now. I think he is preparing a ground for his successor, so old adherents will be more of an obstacle than help for him. That is why, in my opinion, Kanapleu and Sheiman are those who should resign now. How? Where will they go? That is the question. Furthermore, it is clear that Kanapleu heading the Parliament before the coming parliamentary election is the person who will draw the secret but real list of deputies. That is why he resigns now. A new speaker of the Parliament should become popular quickly to start working for Lukashenka’s successor after the election”.
The appeal of Uladzimir Kanapleu will be included on the agenda of the session of the House of Representatives on October 2.
Deputies will also discuss the election of a new speaker. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has been informed about changes in the staff of the higher legislative body of the country.
