Authorities ban street action on Valentine's Day

The City Hall in Minsk has refused the representatives of the youth pro-democracy groups to stage a traditional street action on Valentine's Day.

"In a letter from the City Hall, Mr, Tsitjankou wrote that "we would not allow you to stage your event within the boundaries of Minsk," the youth leader Khvedaruk said.

The request has been denied because the applicant failed to mention their employment, the official wrote.

"The action is set to take place, even without an official permit, because it is not a political action; it is simply the marking of the spring and celebrating a Christian holiday popular among the young," Khvedaruk said.
