BCD activist Yauhen Yakavenka amnestied
The criminal collegium of Homel Regional Court headed by Lyudmila Hrynko has refuted the appeals of a BCD activist Yauhen Yakavenka and his lawyer concerning the sentence pronounced by Central Court for draft evasion, reports Radio Liberty. The activist has been sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment in a labour camp for draft evasion. Mr. Yakavenka demanded that his call-up papers had to be printed in Belarusian. At the same time, the collegium used the law “On Amnesty” in connection with the 65th anniversary of the Victory. Thus, Yauhen Yakavenka’s term of imprisonment has been cancelled and he is free now.
