Belarus due to return $200mn to Azerbaijan in six days
Azerbaijan lent $200 million to Belarus in order to pay for the natural gas supplies from Russia for 12 days, Azerbaijan president's spokesman Azer Gasymov said on Tuesday.
"Belarus PM Syarhei Sidorski on June 21 approached Azerbaijan's PM Artur Rosi-zade, seeking a short-term loan to Belarus over the situation with gas payments. This was reported to Azerbaijan's President. Taking into account the friendly relations between our countries, President Ilkham Aiyev agreed to issue this loan", Ria Novosti news agency quoted Gasymov as saying.
On June 21, Russian energy giant Gazprom cut natural gas supplies to Belarus over the delayed payments -- nearly $190 million. On June 23, Misk said the money had been wired. Alyaksandr Lukashenka said later he turned to his friend, the president of Azerbaijan who helped him.
