Belarus halts energy imports from Ukraine
Belarus has switched to the imports of electrical power from Russia, refusing to buy the Ukrainian electricity due to higher costs, Ukraine's deputy ministry of fuel and energy Alexey Sheberstov told the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.
Ukraine is currently supplying electricity to Belarus irregularly. The Belarus's government would normally buy the energy left-overs that cost cheaper.
Because of weather conditions, Ukraine does not have those electricity left-overs, the Ukrainian official noted. In June 2007, Ukraine suspended exports of electricity to Belarus due to the lack of cheap nuclear power-generated energy inside the country.
At the same time, Ukraine remains in talks with Belarus over a new deal for the second half of 2007, reports the Ukrainian agency.
