Belarus plans to expand Belavezhskaya Puscha National Park

The territory of the Belavezhskaya Puscha National Park in the western Belarus will be expanded by over three times from 30,000 to 100,000 ha, Dzmitry Byarnatski, National Park's scientific director told Belapan.

He said a project proposal to change the zoning of the forest's territory is being drafted.

It is planned that the historical part of the forest where ancient natural forests grow will be subjected to "a higher protection regime".

Byarnatski also said the park's management also plans to apply to UNESCO seeking to expand the territory of the park, included into the World's Heritage List.
