Belarusian alpine skier not to take part in Olympic competition

Belarusian Maria Shkanava will not be able to take part in the competition, BelaPAN reports. A participant must not have more than 80 FIS points to be allowed to do it while the Belarusian representative has 93.

The number of FIS points achieved in a race is the sum of the race penalty and the competitors race points. A racer’s FIS points are a measure of how they compare with the rest of the world, Pressball reports. The race penalty reflects the top competitors in the race. The competitors race points reflect the difference between the competitor and the winner.

The skier will take part in the next competition on February 12. Sportswomen will compete for medals in downhill skiing.
