Belarusian language in only 5-6 percent of schools
The share of the Belarusian-language education is diminishing in Belarus.
Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian School Association Tamara Mackiewic says education in the Belarusian tongue has been on decline.
"Probably, there are more Belarusian-language schools that 5-6% officially, but they often lack Belarusian textbooks, so they teach physics, maths and other subjects n Russian," BelaPAN quotes Mrs. Mackiewicz as saying.
Meanwhile, the government has closed down 130 secondary education establishments - mostly the Belarusian-language schools in rural areas.
