Belarusian-Polish commission for Union of Poles in Belarus in session in Minsk
The first session of the Belarusian-Polish commission for settlement of the conflict connected with the civil association of the Union of Poles in Belarus has started in the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, on March 19. BelaPAN refers to the press secretary of the Polish Embassy to Belarus Pavel Marchuk and informs that the senior deputy of the Foreign Minister Andrzej Kremer is the head of the Polish delegation while the Belarusian delegation is headed by the plenipotentiary for religions and nationalities Leanid Hulyaka. Civil representatives have not been invited.
The decision to create a bilateral commission was taken at a meeting of the Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in Kiev on February 25.
Representatives of the Union of Poles hope that the intergovernmental commission will solve their problems. Activists of the unregistered structure of the UPB hope they will be legalized while the official organization hopes to establish a dialogue with Warsaw.
