Belarus's oldest woman marks 118th birthday anniversary

Hanna Ragel, Belarus's oldest woman today is marking her 118th birthday anniversary. She was born on July 4, 1889 in the village of Belyja in the Maladzechna district. She currently lilves in Maladzechna together with her retired daughter.

The local authorities offered the oldest woman a financial assistance of Br80,000. Normally, people who turn 100 would be given Br100,000.

As of April 1, 2007, a total of 696 residents of Belarus turned 100 years old, with 14 of them reaching 110th anniversary.

Women prevail over men among the oldest persons in Belarus, with 100 men and 596 women marking their 100th anniversary, according to Belta.
