Blogger's computer seized by police over public servant's house video
Police search civil activist Henadz Zhulega's apartment in Svetlahorsk.
On August 6, Zhuleha recorded a video about the house belonging to the chairman of Svetlahorsk district head and shared it via social networks. Afterward, the video was posted by several news websites, reports Belapan. On August 17, his apartment was searched by police agents and his computer was confiscated, under the warrant issued by the district prosecutor.
Zhuleha became known after he had made several videos about the life in the district center and insolved social problems in the town. By showing the house of the district head in his video, he wanted to stress that the town had money to solve those social problems but spent it on the housing for officilas instead.
The police said the official's wife had filed a statement, complaining the video degraded her honor and her family's dignity and the information in the video was defamatory. However, Henadz Zhuleha maintains the video contains no false information.
According to preliminary information, no criminal case has been started against the blogger. No administrative offence statement has been filed either. The police told Zhuleha that his computer was subject to inspections. They would take decisions later as to if he was to face charges and punishment.
