Blood donors finish preventive strike but it can lead to permanent one
Belarusian donors have finished the preliminary strike. It lasted from June 20 till June 27. Actions took place in Mahileu, Minsk, Homel and Brest Regions. Let us remind you that donors are protesting against the cancellation of benefits they used to have (tooth replacement discounts, sanatorium and resort discounts, 40% addition to pensions).
Participants of the preliminary strike have sent appeals to the House of Representatives, the government and the Ministry of Healthcare demanding to keep the benefits.
The honorary donor of Belarus Ihar Kavalenka informs about their plans for the future:
“We will take the final decision according to the replies we get from these institutions. We will either start a permanent strike or the authorities will start a round-table discussion.”
Donors are also going to create a coordinating board consisting of 1 or 2 activists from every region. This board will be organizing all future strikes of donors.
