Canada reaffirms economic sanctions against Belarus
Belarus has remained on the list of the countries that are subject to Canada's economic sanctions, reports TUT.BY, quoting the Canadian border control authorities.
Economic sanctions are imposed on 14 nations (Ivory Cost, North Korea, Congo, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Myanmar, Zimbabwe and Belarus) and two terrorist groups (Al-Quaida and Taliban).
According to the Canadian laws, trade with Belarus must be cleared by the Ministry of International Trade, excluding the humanitarian aid (foodstuffs, clothes and medicines).
Canada unilaterally introduced economic sanctions against Belarus in December 2006, seeking to put pressure on the Belarusian authorities for violating human rights and civil freedoms.
