The case of Vika Maroz sent to Genova Court

The case of the Italian family that did not let a minor Belarusian girl Vika Maroz return to Belarus has been sent to the court of Genova. “Agenzia Giornalistica Italia” informs that the court admitted that the husband and wife Alessandro Giusto and Maria Chiara Bornacin, their parents and the head of the abbey who helped to hide Vika were guilty.
According to the Italian press, the investigation will continue. The defence is hoping that Vika Maroz will be invited as a witness. Let us remind you that the husband and wife Alessandro Giusto and Maria Chiara Bornacin (the family Vika Maroz lived with every summer and Christmas for several years) refused to let her return to Belarus in September 2006.

They claimed that Vika had been suffering from “moral and physical violence” in Vileika children's home. The Italian family was hiding the girl in an abbey in the north of Italy for 20 days. Italian police found the girl on September 27. Vika was delivered to Minsk on September 30.

A month later the girl was adopted by the family of Alena and Syarhey Vasileuski’s who had already been bringing up Vika’s elder brother. The children had not seen each other for two years. They met thanks to Alessandro Giusto and Maria Chiara Bornacin who found the Italian couple the brother was spending vacations with.

The first child was born into the Italian family this year – the son Emmanuel.
