Central Elections Commission does not rig elections: commentator
Alexander Lukashenka on Tuesday signed a decree, allowing the political parties in Belarus to nominate their representatives for taking part in the work of the Central Elections Commission. They will have the right of an advisory vote. The parties that nominate their candidates for the September 28 parliamentary elections, are entitled to delegating only one representative per party.
In an interview with the European Radio for Belarus, political analyst Yury Chavusau reminds that this is a usual practice of the authorities. In the past, opposition members also were part of the Central Elections Commission but could not influence on the results of the vote:
"The advisory vote is an opportunity to voice your opinion which will not influence on the course of the meeting. One should not say that this opportunity is purely formal, but it does not allow to influence on the course of the campaign. Everyone is well aware that the Central Elections Commission does not deal with rigging the elections. Elections in Belarus are falsified by other structures", Chavusau said.
