EBRD President to arrive in Minsk for the first time
During the visit, prospects for cooperation with Belarus will be discussed.
President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Sum Chakrabarti will visit Minsk on February 17-18. This will be the first visit of the head of this organization in Belarus.
As senior adviser of the bank, Anton Usau, told BelaPAN, Sum Chakrabarti is scheduled to meet with the head of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Prime Minister Andrei Kabyakou, Minister of Economy and Foreign Affairs.
According to Usau, during the visit there will be discussed possible cooperation between Belarus and the EBRD. In addition, Chakrabarti plans to visit the production factory of the railway company Stadler in Fanipol - this project is implemented with the participation of the Bank.
There are also scheduled meetings with representatives of non-governmental organizations and the diplomatic corps.
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is an international financial institution established to support economic transformation in Central and Eastern Europe. The Bank became operational in April 1991. Belarus is a full member of the Bank since 1992. In 1994, the country opened a permanent office of the bank.
During its presence in Belarus, the Bank participated in the implementation of 66 projects. The total volume of investment involved is estimated at 1 billion 502.4 million euros. The allocated resources are directed to the development of small and medium-sized businesses.
