Entrepreneurs say Customs Union violates Belarus Constitution
The coordination council of the entrepreneurs of Minsk has issued a statement saying that Belarus cannot be a full-fledged member of the customs union with Russia and Kazakhstan. The council points to several violations of the country's Constitution by the Belarusian president. Therefore, Alexander Lukashenka is not entitled to signing international agreements, council's chairman Alexander Makayeu told the European Radio for Belarus.
He said: “In this statement, we are saying clearly why Lukashenka has no legitimacy to sign this Customs Union treaty. We are simply reminding that the agreements signed by him could be revised in the future”.
The common foreign policy of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan in the framework of the Customs Union will be shaped by a commission with Russia having a decisive vote in Moscow. It may become a hurdle for our country's close cooperation with other members states of EU's Eastern Partnership program.
