EU launches sanctions mechanism against Belarusian administration

Ambassadors of 27 EU members states launched the mechanism of preparation for the decision to impose sanctions on the Belarusian authorities at a meeting in Brussels on Friday, informs a source in the Council of the EU, reports RIA Novosti.
"They have given the signal to start working on the issue”, - said the interlocutor of the agency.

According to her, the political decision to impose the sanctions will be taken during the first planned meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on January 31.

According to diplomatic sources, the list of Belarusian officials the European Union is going to impose sanctions on may be extended to more than a hundred people.
