EU office: decision to lift sanctions on Yury Chyzh legal, not political
The decision of the European Court is a legal definition and not a political decision of the EU countries. This is how the EU Delegation to Belarus commented to BelaPAN on the decision of the European Court to lift sanctions on the businessman Yury Chyzh.
On October 6, the Court overturned the freezing of assets of the Belarusian oligarch Yury Chyzh, his company "Triple" and the football club "Dynamo-Minsk".
Chyzh had visa and economic sanctions of the EU imposed on him in March 2012 as a businessman, "who provides financial support to Lukashenka's regime through his company "Triple". However, the European Court decided that the European Council was unable to provide evidence that Chyzh financially supports the Lukashenka regime.
According to the court decision, the Council of the EU as a party that lost has to reimburse the legal costs to Chyzh and his company, if there is such a requirement.
Neither Yury Chyzh, nor the company "Triple" have commented on the decision of the European Court.
