European deputy suggests restoring “black lists” of Belarusian officials
A European deputy Richard Charnetski has suggested imposing sanctions on Belarus. For example, our deputies may not be included in the Parliamentary Assembly Euronest and “black lists” of Belarusian officials may be restored. Richard Charnetski claimed it at a mini-session of the European Parliament dedicated to Belarus on February 24.
“If Lukashenka does not understand the language of European values, he will understand the language of sanctions for sure, -claimed the European deputy. – I mean the sanctions that would not influence the welfare of Belarusian citizens but would complicate the life of Belarusian officials and politicians responsible for repressions”.
In Charnetski’s opinion, the EU’s approach to Belarus is asymmetrical: Europe has opened the door for Belarus but has not received anything in exchange for it.
Let us note that the majority of European deputies who took part in the debate concerning Belarus did not support the idea of sanctions.
