European Parliament finally opens door to European External Action Service
The European Parliament’s absolute majority approved the last three legal texts that were needed to launch the long-awaited European External Action Service on October 20, reports EurActiv. It will happen on the day of the anniversary of the Treaty of Lisbon – December 1, 2010. The EU Ambassador to Belarus as well as some other employees of the EU representative office will be included in the service on default.
The European service headed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton will help the European Union become better coordinated and gain more authority in foreign policy.
