European Union worried about state of Belarusian mass media
Heads of EU diplomatic missions accredited in Belarus are ready to meet the initiators of a civil campaign “For the freedom of speech”. According to Radio “Liberty”, the UK Ambassador Rosmary Thomas has informed about it. The meeting will take place either on January 19 or on January 26.
The campaign “For the freedom of speech” is initiated by Belarusian journalists, human rights activists, representatives of political parties and civil associations. They are worried by the disturbing situation in the field of mass media. In their opinion, the project of the President’s decree on control over the Internet and the second written warning sent to “Narodnaya Volya” testify to it.
The British Embassy is the EU’s contact embassy in Belarus now because Spain that is presiding in the EU now does not have diplomatic representatives in Belarus.
