First car confiscation in Belarus
Minsk Pershamaiski District Court has made the decision. A 28-year-old man was detained for repeated drunken driving.
The driver was stopped by driving inspectors in Minsk ring road 4 days after the car confiscation law had come into power. A medical check-up revealed almost 0.1% alcohol in his blood. The driver had already been deprived of his driving license and fined for drunken driving earlier.
The court decided to confiscate his Fiat, Interfax-West reports. It will be sold and the former owner will be able to buy it on a universal basis. The price will be determined by a special commission. The car belonged to another person but it is not an obstacle for confiscation now.
The driver will have to do correctional work for 18 months and 20% of his wage will be withheld. He has also been fined for 39 million roubles and deprived of his driving licence for 3 years.
