Five youngsters remain behind bars in Salihorsk

The police in the city of Salohorsk have issued administrative offence charges to youth activists Franak Viachorka, Ales Kalita, Zmicier Yasevich, Zmicier Khvedaruk and Viktar Dzenisevich who were today detained near the building the local court. The rest of the detainees have been released. Radio Svaboda reports that one of the girls was admitted to a hospital on suspicion that her finger was fractured during a clash with police.

The riot police soldiers abused force to arrest 11 people who came to support Ivan Shyla, a youth activist, tried for taking part in an unregistered organization.

Human rights lawyer Valiantsin Stefanovich told our radio that the defense insists on interrogation of a local town hall official who can testify that Ivan Shyla approached the town hall as a representative of the public, not an organization.

"The situation is calm now. There are several dozens of people standing in front of the courthouse. Police are monitoring them," Stefanovich told ERB over the phone.
