For Freedom activists to stand trial for reading Bahdanovič’s verses
The police made reports against four activists of the movement For Freedom including the leader Yuras Hubarevich for the recitation of Maksim Bahdanovič’s verses dedicated for his 125th birth anniversary.
All the action participants are accused of participation (Hubarevich is also accused of organization) in an unauthorized picket near the monument to Maksim Bahdanovič on December 9. According to the police, the violation was ‘their mass presence’ near the monument. One of the present, Alyaksei Sayevich, is also accused of hoisting a white-red-white flag and reciting verses there.
The birthday of the Belarusian classical poet was officially marked on December 9. The meeting near the monument was organized by the authorities. Deputy head of the President’s Administration Ihar Buzouski and Minister of Culture Barys Svyatlou took part in it.
Civil activists approached the monument after the official event. They wanted to commemorate Maksim Bahdanovič. They may be punished for it now.
