Freelancer from Ivatsevichy receives warning from the Prosecutor's Office
On June 8, the Ivatsevichy Prosecutor's Office issued an official warning to Pavel Dailid for working with foreign media without accreditation.
Independent journalist Pavel Dailid has been officially warned by the prosecutors of the Ivatsevichy rayon for violating the law on mass media (working without accreditation). The reason was an article on the website of Radio Liberty about the Sporava village of Byaroza rayon, Brest region, which appeared on May 16. Mr Dailid was recognized as the author of the publication.
According to the journalist, the Prosecutor's Office came to the conclusion based on the "results of the Internet monitoring", where in various pictures he was seen taking pictures and shooting video.
Pavel Dailid agred that on May 15 he was in the village of Sporava as a journalist to gather information.
Mr Dailid: "I actually agreed, said that I was there photographing - I did not deny it. The next day I wrote a text and sent it to various editors to publish. I do not consider myself guilty, as I have the constitutional right to collect, store and disseminate information."
Pavel Dailid is not going to appeal the decision of the Prosecutor's Office, because, according to him, there is no point.
According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, 10 journalists (some of them repeatedly)have been prosecuted for their cooperation with foreign media without accreditation. The total amount of fines now stands at more than 86 million rubles.
