Haidukevich calls appointment of a sole candidate a "virtual clownery"

The leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party Siarhei Haidukevich promised to his party members that an LDP candidate would become President in their life-times. He made this statement at the party Congress on August 21 in Minsk.
Mr. Haidukecivch considers LDP to be the strongest political force in Belarus. The party has 40 thousand members at present, as its ideology satisfies the majority of people, he said.

Siarhei Haidukevich also informed that approximately 8 thousand people would join his initiative group to collect signatures for his appointment as a candidate for President. The party representatives will be present at every voting station, and they also intend to conduct exit-polls. His initiative group is capable in collecting 100 thousand signatures on the very first day.

Analysing the practice of conducting elections in Belarus, the LDP leader stated the following: soon no one will go to the elections, and the officials will elect themselves. As for the United Denocratic Forces, Haidukevich said there had never been such a structure. To his opinion, there will be no sole candidate, moreover, the main liberal democrat in Belarus called the current processes in the Belarusian opposition a "virtual clownery", informs BelaPAN.
