Human rights activists organize picket against capital punishment near President’s Administration
Human rights activists Ales Byalyatski, Valyantsin Stefanovich and Iryna Toustsik as well as a journalist Syarhei Sys have been detained by the police near the President’s Administration in Minsk. The activists organized a picket against capital punishment in Belarus. ERB has managed to phone Ales Byalyatski who was in the police office at that moment:
ERB: Where are you now?
Byalyatski: They are drawing up protocols against us in Lenin District Department of the Interior.
ERB: What are you accused of?
Byalyatski: We are probably accused of conducting an unauthorized event… We have not read the protocols yet.
ERB: How many policemen detained you?
Byalyatski: I think there were four of them, one car approached us. And some of them ran up to us – I think there were six policemen.
Let us remind you that it was revealed that two prisoners were executed in Belarus – Vasil Yuzepchyk and Andreiu Zhuk. It was announced on March 22. Human rights activists think that the Belarusian authorities have violated the norms of the international legislation.
