Human rights activists seek to talk to police about street actions
Human rights organizations in Belarus have proposed the law-enforcement agencies to hold negotiations on February 19. They seek to discuss the dispersal of street actions on February 8, 14 and 16 as well as the situation surrounding the Union of Poles in Belarus. Among those invited are the representatives of the Interior Ministry, the Minsk City Police Department, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the State Security Committee (KGB) and lawmakers.
Human rights activist Alena Tankachova told the European Radio for Belarus that there is a need to negotiate, because the authorities returned to the practice of dispersing peaceful street actions.
Foreign diplomats, including OSCE and the office of the European Commission in Belarus, have been invited to monitor the talks.
