Karatkevich visits Statkevich’s prison in Mahilyou
Everything is according to the law in his prison, the warden told the presidential contender.
Presidential contender Tatstsyana Karatkevich visited Mahilyou prison #4 on August 17. Political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich is serving his sentence there.
Karatkevich paid the visit to demonstrate that the public remembered about Mikalai Statkevich and the other political prisoners, the human rights website Viasna reports.
Prison governor Alyaksandr Dzmitrou agreed to meet the presidential contender and answered a number of her questions. He was very polite but only said that everything was according to the law when answering many of her questions, Tatstsyana Karatkevich said.
Statkevich was allowed to talk to his wife and he got a lot of postcards and letters on his birthday, the warden added.
Karatkevich visited Mahilyou colony IK-15 too. Warden Alyaksei Lazarenka agreed to meet her. He also kept replying that everything was according to the law in his colony.
