Kupala theater actors invited to presidential administration
Usevalad Yancheuski, the country's top official in charge of ideology, today met at the Office of the President Alexander Molchanov and Hanna Khitryk, the actors from the Yanka Kupala National Theater. Actress Svyatlana Zelyankouskaya was also invited but ignored the meeting. According to Hanna Khitryk, the head of the main ideology department at the presidential administration, was mainly interested in why the above mentioned actors started working for a half of wage base.
Hanna Khitryk: “I said that it is wonderful to live with our wages, but there are also creative problems. There are plays in th theater's repertoire that simply should not be played in the country's main drama theater. These plays make people more rude, more angry and more stupid”.
The actors are also not satisfied that the theater's administration removes plays from the program without explanations. These and other issues were raised the meeting with Usevalad Yancheuski.
Hanna Khitryk: “He said that he understood everything and that we should not think that we were not heard. He was right in saying that it was more a case of the culture ministry and was surprised that he had to deal with these problems. But he promised to help to sort this situation out”.
Thus, the actors heard some new promises that aim to calm them down for at least a certain period of time. It is yet to be known how the presidential administration will interfere with the life of the theater.
