Laurou: Russia hopes Belarusians will not be forced to make extreme choices
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Siarhej Laurou hopes the Belarusian voters will not have to choose between the pro-Russian and pro-Western orientation of their country at the elections. He said that during his visit to Poland, reports RIA "Novosti".
Laurou stated that Russia would not like the 6 years ago situation to happen again, when they said the Ukrainians had to choose who their partner would be - Russia or Europe, before presidential elections in Ukraine.
According to the Russian official, there are grounds to be sure these appeals will not be heard this time. He also expressed hope that elections in Belarus would be honest and free, taking into consideration the fact Minsk had invited international observers.
