Lithuanian foreign minister to visit Minsk

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius is planned to pay a visit Minsk in early February to discuss alternative supplies of oil and natural gas to Belarus via Lithuanian ports, reports interfax.by.
"We are interested in having Belarus diversify the sources of energy supplies. One of the examples is the use of the seaport in Klaipeda and the Lithuanian railways," said Mr Linkevičius, adding that supplies of natural gas could be discussed if there is interest from Belarus.
The Lithuanian foreign relations chief is ready to discuss these topics "along with other issues on the agenda."
Belarus and Russia have failed to agree terms for new oil supplies in 2020. Belarusian President Lukashenka has ordered the government to find alternative options for supplies.
On 20 January, media reports suggested that Belarus purchased some 80 000 tons of Norwegian crude to be shipped via Lithuania's Klaipeda port and further by rail to the refinery in Belarus.
