Lukashenka helped arm Syrian rebels - BIC
Portable anti-tank rocket launcher
Alyaksandr Lukashenka helped arm the Syrian rebels. Even during the civil war (it began in 2011), they could receive weapons from Belarus to fight against the government army, writes the Belarusian Investigative Center.
It turned out that in 2015 Belarus sent to Bulgaria 240 portable anti-tank missile launchers ATGS 9P135M "Konkurs" and 140 portable grenade launchers AGS-17. The total value of the delivery amounted to 37.9 million euros. In the same year, Bulgaria transferred 136 Konkurs launchers to the United States and another 80 to Saudi Arabia. Experts say that Soviet anti-tank missile systems were of no interest for the needs of the US and Saudi armies. It is known that at that time the USA was implementing a program of arming the Syrian opposition.
Representatives of the American defense company Regulus Global claimed that their military instructors were trained in Belarus to use such equipment. The case file mentions the death of one of these instructors in Bulgaria (there was an accident at the shooting range). The Center for Corruption and Organized Crime Research (OCCRP) called Regulus Global a "Pentagon contractor".
The representative of the United States Special Operations Command, Matthew Allen, said in 2015 that the Pentagon had purchased missiles from Belarus for the program of arming Syrian rebels.
It is known that Alyaksandr Lukashenka has always supported the Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad. And claims to have "good human relations" with him after he fled to Russia.
