Lukashenka: Prices in Belarus are already very high
The head of state on Thursday held a meeting with the government to discuss Russian currency crisis' effects on Belarus.
On December 18, Alyaksandr Lukashenka held an economic meeting. The head of state said that Belarus "will not run after Russia" and will not devalue its national currency. He demanded the government to settle accounts with Russia in foreign currency - dollars or euros.
Another issue discussed was prevention of unjustified price increases for goods and services in the domestic market.
"The more money you get for selling goods outside the country, the better. Within the country, the prices are already very high, BELTA quoted Alyaksandr Lukashenka. - Our population no longer takes the goods abroad to sell (it is an indicator), but goes, particularly, to Russia and Ukraine, buys there products, including Belarusian ones, and brings them to Belarus."
Alyaksandr Lukashenka drew people's attention to the fact that stability in the foreign exchange market depends not only on the government or the National Bank, but also on the people. "Do you want to have a collapse - run to the currency exchange offices," he said.
