Lukashenka proposes to sentence drug lords to 20-25 years

In the fight against drug abuse red tape is unacceptable. It was said by Alyaksandr Lukashenka on 4 December. The head of state held a meeting 'on combating illicit trafficking in narcotics, psychotropic substances and their precursors and analogs'.
Addressing the officials, Lukashenka asked if the interagency council, established under the Government, had enough power to combat drug abuse and drug trafficking.
"I am unhappy with the commissions that you offer to create, new councils above the new minister and those who struggle with drugs. Why are you doing this is unclear," BELTA quoted Alyaksandr Lukashenka. According to him, the new structures lead to red tape.
At the meeting, Lukashenka proposed increased penalties for drug crimes. "Those who were particularly active in this field may get up to 20-25 years in prison. Those who will be less active, of course, will get less. Tell me, what kind of scale should be there, we'll put it into law. Deputies will support us."
